On October, 25, 2023, SCNUFLS-TM I-EP PYP has successfully completed the IB evaluation, and received high praise from the IB Judges.


2023年10月25日,华外创新融合部(I-EP)PYP高质量顺利完成五年一度的IB复审工作,并收到了IB评审官们的高度评价!

From 23 to 25 October, two IB officers from Indonesia have conducted a three-day online evaluation of the IB Primary Program of the I-EP Huawai Tongman Foreign Language School. During the evaluation process, the two officers conducted in-depth interviews with the board of directors, the principle as well as relevant administrators, teachers, parents and student representatives. On the basis of the submitted videos of the school facilities and equipment, as well as 16 videos of recorded lessons, the two officers checked all kinds of school facilities and equipment online. Moreover, they have observed 40 online lessons, examined all kinds of resources supporting inquiry teaching and learning, reviewed the implementation of the school's programme in comparison with the "IB Programme Standards and Implementing Rules", and confirmed with the teachers on all the materials submitted in the first and the second phases of the evaluation.

10月23日-25日,来自印度尼西亚的两位IB访问官对华外同文外国语学校创新融合部IB小学项目进行了为期三天的线上复审。在评估过程中,两位访问官与董事会、校长以及相关管理人员、所有老师、家长和学生代表进行了深度访谈。在递交了学校设施设备视频,以及16份录课视频的基础上,复审三天,两位访问官线上参观了学校的各类场地和设施设备,线上观课40节,检查了支持探究教学的各类资源,对照《IB项目标准与实施细则》逐条审查了学校的项目实施情况,并就复审第一阶段和第二阶段提交的所有材料与老师们进行了一一确认。

From becoming an IB candidate school in 2018 and officially passing IB accreditation in 2020, Huawai Tongman Foreign Language School have became the first PYP & MYP dual-accredited school in Guangzhou. Under the guidance of the Academic Committee of Huawai Tongman Foreign Language School, I-EP's understanding and practice of the IB has continued to deepen, and the quality of education and teaching has steadily improved. For this evaluation, the school needs to meet the IB's 9 criteria and 41 implementation rules in the four major areas including purpose, environment, culture and learning to continue to retain the IB school qualification. The IB's "Five-Year Evaluation" is a key criterion for checking the quality of each IB school's operation.

从2018年成为IB候选学校,2020年正式通过IB认证,华外同文外国语学校成为了广州第一所PYP,MYP双认证学校。在华外同文外国语学校学术委员会的指导下,I-EP对IB的理解和实践不断深入,教育教学质量稳步提升。本次复审,学校需要在宗旨、环境、文化和学习四大方面满足IB的9条标准和41条实施细则,才能继续保留IB学校资质。IB“五年评估”是检验每个IB学校办学质量的关键标准。

In the concluding meeting of this evaluation, the IB officers team said that I-EP is a community that implements the holistic education, a community that focuses whole heartedly on the well-being of its students, a community that has gained continuous support from its governing body and leadership, and a community that carries the lB philosophy and international-mindedness unfailingly throughout. We are pleased to announce that, based on your submissions, full stakeholder interviews, and observations into classrooms, your practice meets all lB requirements. We are particularly impressed by the students' comments that you are caring, friendly, open-minded, knowledgeable and that they, as well as their parents, are not only proud to be a part of your community, but are willing to contribute to its development, which is especially memorable.

I-EP is a customized programme of Huawai Tongman Foreign Language School. It includes both of the primary and middle schools. PYP Elementary School is for G1-6 and MYP Middle School is for G7-9. Both the PYP and MYP were authorized by the IB organization.


I-EP is committed to cultivating the bilingual communicators who can use Chinese and English proficiently, the global citizens with a worldwide perspective rooted in Chinese culture and traditional values, and the individuals who are skilled in new technologies, constantly seeking for excellence, and possess lifelong love for learning.


★ Two homeroom teachers: one is Chinese and the other is international, providing an immersive Chinese and English bilingual environment


★ Offering CAL (Chinese support) and EAL (English support) curriculum


★ Small class size, about 24 students per class


★ Graduates of the I-EP PYP can choose to enter either the I-EP MYP or the CEP.

IB课程+国家课程+特色课程

Combine the IB Curriculum, National Curriculum and Personalization Curriculum together


I-EP adopts the IB framework for education, offering interdisciplinary learning based on six themes in primary school and eight subjects in middle school. In addition to meeting the requirements of the IB framework in the subject offerings, the teaching methodology, student behavior management, and community building also align with the IB educational philosophy. In terms of teaching design, inquiry-based, project-based, concept-driven, and real-life application methods are flexibly implemented in the classroom every day. 


I-EP integrates the national curriculum standards with the IB teaching standards for primary and middle school education. In terms of learning content, the primary school curriculum fully covers the national curriculum standards for Chinese and mathematics, while middle school subjects such as Chinese, math, and history are integrated into the national curriculum. However, teaching methodology still employs the IB methods, which will greatly help deepen students' understanding, application, and transformation of knowledge. Take labor courses as an example. In I-EP's primary school, labor courses meet both the national curriculum standards and the PYP interdisciplinary six inquiry themes, incorporating teaching content that allows students to learn labor skills and work ethics through autonomous and explorative practice, fostering students' ability in autonomous management.

I-EP以IB作为框架,小学进行六大主题的超学科学习,中学进行八大学科的学习。除了学科设置符合IB的框架要求以外,在教学方法、学生行为管理、社区文化建设方面上,都贯彻着IB的教育理念。在教学设计上,探究式的、项目式的、概念驱动的、结合真实生活的教学方法,每天都被灵活地运用在孩子的课堂上。


I-EP中小学将国家课程标准和IB教学标准进行融合。在学习内容上,小学语文、数学百分百覆盖国家课程课标要求,中学语文、数学、历史等科目融入国家课程,但在教学的方法上,依然使用IB的方法进行教学,这对于加深学生对知识的理解、运用和转化将有很大帮助。以劳动课为例,在I-EP小学,劳动课教学在满足国家课程标准的同时,将结合PYP跨学科六大探究主题设计教学内容,以学生自主探究式学习通过实践掌握劳动技能和劳动价值观,培养学生的自主管理能力。

分层教学、个性化培养和语言支持

Focus on differentiated teaching, personalized development, and language support


I-EP focuses on differentiated teaching, creating individualized class schedules and teaching plans based on students' abilities, and makes timely adjustments and improvements according to the actual situation. Differentiated teaching is beneficial for teachers to prepare lessons and teach based on the situations of each student, so as to highlight the dominant position of students at classes, encourage their passion for learning, and allow them with different skill levels to follow their own pace and make progress together.


The IB standard requires schools to provide students with adequate support to help them develop their mother tongue and foreign languages. Therefore, in PYPwe offers EAL and CAL programs that are targeted to help students improve their language ability. In addition, there are five classes each week, focusing on listening, grammar and speaking. Taking reading as an example, in the first week of each semester, we measure students' English reading level through PM Benchmark. Then, we will assign them reading materials that match their abilities according to their individual reading levels. We have also introduced graded reading systems such as RAZKids, LAZGlobal, Level Chinese...to effectively motivate students to read.

I-EP注重分层化、差异化教学,针对学生情况,制定个性化课表及教学计划,并按实际情况及时调整、改善。分层教学有利于老师基于学生特点进行备课和教学,从而突出学生的主体地位、激发学生学习积极性,让基础不同的学生跟随自己的节奏,一起进步。


IB要求学校给学生提供足够的支持来帮助学生发展他们的母语和外语。对此,I-EP设有英文语言与支持(EAL)和中文语言与支持(CAL)项目,针对性地帮助学生提升语言水平,该课时为一周五次课,重点在于听力、语法与口语。以阅读项目为例,我们在每学期开学的第一周,会通过PMBenchmark测评学生的英语阅读水平,并根据学生个体的阅读等级给他们分配符合其能力的读物,同时我们引进了RAZKids、LAZGlobal、LevelChinese等分级阅读系统,有效调动学生阅读积极性。

寓学于趣,兼顾学术与实践

Learning through fun and practice


Real education is not about filling a bucket with water, but about lighting the students' interests of learning. The purpose of education is to ignite children's interest in learning, to give play to their initiative, and to guide them to learn actively and love learning. In I-EP, we advocate experiential teaching. All teaching materials and topics are designed based on real cases from the real world. The teachers give students an immersive experience in different ways, such as going out to explore, model demonstrations, conducting experiments, allowing the learning activities more vivid, interesting and lively.


Book Character Day, Pinyin contest, Math Day, English corner... Children "learn while they play and play while they learn". While experiencing and enjoying the fun of activities, their curiosity about reading, love for Chinese, passion for math and English are also becoming stronger and stronger. At the same time, we also provide a wide range of opportunities and stages for our students to showcase their talents, such as the Chinese Poetry Festival, Math Day, AMC Contst, Zongheng Cup Debate Competition, International English Spelling Bee Contest and so on.

真正的教育,不是注满一桶水,而是点燃一把火。点燃孩子对学习的兴趣,发挥孩子们的主观能动性,引导他们主动学习、爱上学习才是教育的目的。在I-EP,我们主张体验式教学。所有课程用的材料、题目都是真实的,老师会根据外界的真实案例设计成教学材料,融合到课程之中,通过不同方式给予学生身临其境的感受,如:外出探究,实物/模型展示、实验操作...在老师们的精心安排下,学习从枯燥乏味变得生动形象、有趣活泼。


书本角色日,拼音大闯关、数学日、英语角…孩子们“在玩中学,在学中玩”。他们在体验与享受活动快乐的同时,对阅读的好奇、对语文的喜欢、对数学的热情、对英语的热爱也在无形中变得越来越强。与此同时,我们为学生提供各种各样的机会和舞台,从中文诗词大赛、数学日活动、AMC澳大利亚数学竞赛,到纵横杯辩论赛、国际英文拼词大会,他们在这里展示自己的才华,收获经验和成长。

建设学习型社区

Building a learning communitiy


I-EP builds a multicultural learning community, gathering the teachers and students from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and many other places at home and abroad. By promoting cross-cultural discussion, learning and living among teachers and students, we develop students' cultural competence and build up their international perspectives.


In I-EP, we have five houses featuring both traditional culture and international elements. These are not only the identity symbols of I-EP, but also the cultural carriers of the school for breaking down grade barriers and bringing the younger and older students together. By healthy competition among the houses, we really hope that more and more student leaders will emerge.

强调中华文化底蕴

Emphasize the Chinese culture learning


In I-EP, we not only focus on cultivating students' international perspectives, but also emphasize the education of traditional Chinese culture learning. The most important point of it is to allows students learn to respect their own culture and language before they have the energy and ability to communicate and interact with different cultures. Therefore, we attach great importance to every traditional Chinese festival, such as Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival... On these special days, we have special activities to celebrate with students. The homeroom teacher will also teach the students tips related to festivals in the class.


In academic and other student activities, we allow students to fully immerse themselves in the traditional culture, such as Chinese poetry meeting, different traditional Chinese festival inquiry project, and Huali festival. We hope that the traditional culture will become the soil to nourish children's mind and soul, and further help them build their "Chinese" identity and enhance their local identity awareness.

在I-EP,我们既致力于扩宽孩子们的国际视野,也聚焦中国传统文化的教育。而这其中最重要的一点就是让学生们先学会尊重自己的文化,尊重自己的语言,这样才有能量和能力与不同的文化进行交流互动。因此,我们重视每一个中华传统节日,春节、元宵节、端午节、中秋节...在这些特别的日子,我们都会设置特别的活动,跟学生一起,携手庆贺佳节,感受文化魅力。班主任老师还会在班上科普与节日相关的小知识。


在学术活动与学生活动中,我们也会让学生充分浸润在传统文化的熏陶中,如:举办中文诗词大会、进行中华传统节日探究、开展华鲤节活动等等。我们希望借此让优秀的传统文化成为滋养孩子们精神和心灵的土壤,进一步帮助他们链接“中国人”的身份,提升本土认同意识。
