Description of the Unit

In the fourth unit of drama, the fifth graders worked on the musical Matilda, based on the unit theme People go through changes, from understanding the content of the story to analyzing the characters' personalities.  In the summative assessment, the students presented excerpts in a team effort. The performance of the musical was a great challenge for the students, as they had to practice a lot both in lines and body movements.

Although the practice is very tiring and the movements are very difficult, as long as you focus on improving, you will always break the "difficult" situation.

I think Matilda tells us that we need to put everything right, like when everyone was scard of Ms. Trunchbull , Matilda stand up and shouted:"And that's not right!" to inspire everyone to finish this revolting. What I learned is that standing up for the point of view you think is right.

In the rehearsal of Matilda, I really wanted to play the leading role "Matilda", but I did not dare. However, with the encouragement of my classmates and teachers, I tried and successfully got the role. Therefore, trying is very important thing. How do you know you can't do it if you don't try?

Students worked together through this rehearsal and final evaluation presentation, asking and answering questions based on the script, analyzing the characters and making conclusion, and providing and receiving feedback and suggestions from peers. The drama class demonstrated and developed the students' critical thinking and communication skills.
